[30.10.2007] CS! berichtet über US-TV-Premiere von "Shrek the Halls"...
ABC, home of the beloved Christmas classics "A Charlie Brown Christmas," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and others that have delighted generations, adds an instant classic to its holiday repertoire in November sweeps - DreamWorks Animation's "Shrek the Halls," a half-hour of entertainment starring America's favorite ogre and his friends and featuring the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas. "Shrek the Halls" airs Wednesday, November 28 (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
Just when Shrek thought he could finally sit back, relax and enjoy his happily ever after with his new family, the most joyous of all holidays arrives. It's Christmas Eve and everyone is filled with holiday cheer -- except for Shrek. He isn't exactly the picture of yuletide joy, but for the sake of Fiona and the kids, he tries to get into the spirit of things as only an ogre can. Unfortunately, everyone seems to have their own ideas about what Christmas is all about, so when Donkey, Puss In Boots, Gingerbread Man and the whole gang try to join in on the fun, Shrek's plans for a cozy family celebration end up spiraling into one truly unforgettable Christmas.

[21.05.2007] CS! berichtet über die US-Einspielergebnisse...
[...] As the only new movie in theatres, DreamWorks' Shrek the Third was expected to do huge amounts of family business but it surpassed most expectations with an opening weekend of $122 million, making it the third-largest opening ever and setting a new opening record for an animated feature, a record previously held by Shrek 2. [19.05.2007] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Capone..
[...] the worst crime committed by the makers of Shrek the Third is that it doesn't feel like they care about these characters anymore. There's a laziness about the plot and the performances that is undeniable. Even the pop culture references and song cues seem tired, obvious, and played out. If this series were a TV show and featured a pregnant Fiona storyline and a doubling of the cast size, it would be accused of jumping the shark, and that's precisely what watching this film feels like. [...]

[18.05.2007] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik (3/5)..
[...] Shrek the Third is a fine film and a great way for the younger crowd to spend an evening with the family or a Saturday matinee with their friends. With so many movies this summer aimed at an older audience this season, Shrek the Third is a pleasant gift. However, to an adult who has grown accustomed to the all ages encompassing charm of the Shrek films, something was just missing. [...]

[15.05.2007] Bei CS! gibt es ein Interview mit Julie Andrews und Cameron Diaz...

[11.05.2007] Bei CS! gibt es ein Interview mit Mike Myers...
CS: [...] There should be a "Shrek 4," when it comes around to recording for that movie, would you be interested in recording together such as the cast of "Surf's Up" did? To allow for more improvisation.
Myers:
No, I like this process. Because, I start to fall in love with Puss and I fall in love with Donkey and Fiona. And when I get there it's like a radio play. I like them all, who hasn't fallen in love with Antonio? (Laughs.) Who hasn't? (Laughs.) But there is something great, because in the process they don't even know what the script is and they are constantly evolving it. [...]

[07.05.2007] Wie HollywoodReporter.com meldet, soll Mike Mitchell (u.a. "Sky High") bei "Shrek 4" Regie führen... Bei CS! stand noch zu lesen...
Will there be a Puss in Boots movie? Antonio Banderas says yes; according to the producers, well... they're really keeping their mouths shut about it.
The voice of the feline, Banderas, says, "It's fantastic 'cause Donkey doesn't have one! There was a Puss in Boots movement right there. No, I'm very happy that happened; I didn't expect it at all at the beginning that was going to be developed. In this one, they push him more, they're pushing like they've never done before."
With chatter around the business, the franchise has been a huge money maker for DreamWorks Animation, and so the team on the first three was so focused on them, two new people were brought in to develop the Puss in Boots movie - David Steinberg and Jon Zack.
Producer Aron Warner says, "There's definitely been talk about it, and it's definitely been in development. But I don't know where it is in the process; I'm not involved in it."
And so what’s going on with Shrek 4? A lot. But once again, Warner was mum about the future. "All we're doing is 'Shrek 3' right now, that's where our heads are at," he said.
However, Cameron Diaz, Julie Andrews and Rupert Everett are ready to jump back into the studio. "If they do it," started Julie - "I'm in it," finished Cameron. "I'm there, I'm there; I'll by a ticket," she continued.
Rupert, who voices Prince Charming, mentioned the possibility of returning to the fourth installment. "Yes, there's a chance; there's always a chance. You'll have to wait and see."
Shrek 4 is scheduled for a 2010 release; if it goes into full development, Puss in Boots will be after that.

[...] The two main problems, I would say, are the story and the jokes. The story feels like a rehash of stuff we've all seen before. Instead of adding any sort of drama or tension, the plot is a by-the-books fairy tale. For a film that is supposed to be spoofing such fairy tales, this is unacceptable. The few attempts at drama are painfully cliched and seem like a sad attempt to spread a message. A particular scene involving Shrek and Arthur seeing a vision of a father/son relationship is utterly sappy and obvious. Even worse than the story, however, are the jokes. These feel like they are aimed exclusively at the 5 and under crowd. An 8 year old would groan at the majority of these jokes. Where is the subtle humor for adults? Where are the witty pop culture references? Where are the exciting sequences accompanied by meaningful and catchy songs? These were the things that made Shrek and Shrek II quality films, and their absence here is sorely missed.
If there is anything positive that I can say, it is that the visuals are stunning. Even this, however, does not impress as much as it might have a few years ago. The advent of such capabilities wears away the novelty and the CGI can no longer hide a weak script. [...]

[26.04.2007] CS! sprach mit Antonio Banderas über "Shrek 3" und mehr...
CS: I notice there is a "Shrek 4" coming out in 2010. Is there a lot, even more than that, already planned?
Banderas:
The "Shrek" entire run is going to be 5 movies, so far. Now in between 4 and 5, Puss is going to have his own movie. It's going to be called "Puss In Boots: The Story of an Ogre Killer." I don't know if you realize but Donkey doesn't have a movie, himself. [Laughs]. And that will be it, from what Jeffery Katzenberg is communicating to us, but I don't know, if the character - probably some place in the future they may take the character and do it again, and things like that - but so far, there were going to be four, but they discovered the novel game them the opportunity to do five. [...]

[10.04.2007] Bei JoBlo.com gibt es einen "Set"-Bericht zu "Shrek 3"...

[07.04.2007] Heute um 17.20 Uhr zeigt Pro7 die Wiederholung von "Shrek 2 - Der tollkühne Held kehrt zurück"...

[06.04.2007] Heute um 20.15 Uhr zeigt Pro7 "Shrek 2 - Der tollkühne Held kehrt zurück" als deutsche Free-TV-Premiere...

[02.04.2007] Bei CS! gibt es eine Beschreibung von "Shrek 3"-Material... Ausserdem gibt es bei CS! den letzten Stand in Sachen "Shrek 4", "Shrek the Halls" und Spin-Off "Puss in Boots"...
[...] production designer Guillaume Aretos was really tight-lipped about the film, but he did say it was definitely in the works.
"We know there is a 'Shrek 4' and I know the story. It's actually very good and very funny," he confessed. But, when asked if it's in pre-production, Aretos smiled and said, "I am going to use the Scooter Libby thing. I do not recall."
We did manage however to find out a little more about another project called "Shrek the Halls," which is a half-hour Christmas special that will air on ABC. Art director Peter Zaslav told us that while there will be a couple of new characters, it will primarily consist of ones that we are already familiar with.
"We're visiting some old environments and all the core groups of characters. It really integrates seamlessly, I think, with taking place where 'Shrek the Third' left off," Zaslay said. [...]
We also wondered about the spin-off with Puss in Boots. Tim Cheung, the head of character animation, admitted it is a possibility.
"I think there's always been talk with these characters to [do it]. This is a huge franchise for DreamWorks so I think if all things line up, I think they'd be interested in doing stuff like that. I haven't heard anything yet exactly but I just work here. They tell me what to do."
