About a year-and-a-half ago, it was reported that Constantin Film and Impact Pictures had already started work on a fourth "Resident Evil" before the third installment, Resident Evil: Extinction, opening September 21, 2007, had even started shooting.
As the new synopsis for "Extinction" indicates, that is no longer the case. The plot summary for "Extinction" labels the film as "the third and final installment." [...]

Durand, whose now going on to feature in "Vantage Point" with Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox, is one of the film's foremost villains - and looks like his character is going to be a hard peach to squash. Saw some piccies, and it looks like this one's going to be a hoot and a holler, good zombie fun. Oded Fehr is apparently great in this one - but ain't he always great? Something tells me CD won't be back for the next one though.... just an inkling...
Speaking of both "Evil" and going on to bigger and better things, TV fave Jensen Ackles - he's the slightly cooler of the brother coupling on "Supernatural" - is about to make a splash on the long white screen that's usually surrounded by burgundy curtains. (He's getting some good word for his role in the upcoming "Ten Inch Hero", a film that's said to be along the lines of - and this is a good thing, for me anyway, cos I've got a largie for the film - "Empire Records". Elisabeth Harnois and Sean Patrick Flannery are among the cast.) Anyway, that's not the best part for the young actor - and probably not the biggest payday he's going to see in the next year or so, either. He's in talks to play a main character in the fourth "Resident Evil" movie - yep, the third isn't even in theatres and they're a rushing a third into production - which starts filming next year.
Ackles would play the popular character of Leon Kennedy - the wisecracking copper from the last couple of games - in the film. He's one of couple of young guns being mentioned for the role, but I've a feeling his soaring star may just see him snag it.

John Eric Bentley has joined the cast of Constantin Film's Resident Evil: Extinction, being directed by Russell Mulcahy.
Bentley will play an executive from the Umbrella Corporation who is trying to track down Milla Jovovich's character, Alice.
Bentley most recently guest starred on CSI: NY and was a recurring guest star on Less Than Perfect.

Spencer Locke has joined Impact Pictures/Constantin Film's Resident Evil: Extinction, being directed by Russell Mulcahy.
She is playing a girl found living in the ruins of a Kmart who hopes to find a safe haven in Alaska.
Locke was a recurring guest star on Disney's Phil of the Future.

Wie IGN meldet, hat Capcom auf der E3 ein exklusives "Resident Evil"-Videospiel für Nintendo Wii angekündigt...
[...] The game will take advantage of the system's unique controller for a new take on the atmospheric franchise.
"The next-generation console Wii is garnering much attention with its groundbreaking new controller. The new Resident Evil game for the console will combine the series' intense gaming experience and atmosphere with the revolutionary control system of the Wii," Capcom said in an official statement.

Ali Larter ("Final Destination" films) and Chris Egan have joined the cast of Resident Evil: Extinction for Screen Gems, says The Hollywood Reporter.
They will join Resident Evil: Apocalypse returnees Milla Jovovich, Oded Fehr and Mike Epps. Larter will play Claire, a new character to the film franchise who was introduced in the video game "Resident Evil 2." Claire leads a convoy across the Nevada desert. Alice (Jovovich) joins them in their fight for survival as they battle against the evil Umbrella Corp.
Previously-announced Ashanti will play Nurse Betty, while Egan will play Mikey. Fehr is back as Carlos, while Epps will reprise his role as L.J.
The film starts shooting Monday in Mexico.

Sienna Guillory will reprise her role of Jill Valentine in the third installment of the "Resident Evil" franchise, starring alongside Milla Jovovich, reports Variety. Germany's Constantin Film and Impact Pictures are producing.
Resident Evil: Extinction, adapted from the video game, revolves around the continuing battle against the evil Umbrella by Alice and her allies.
Scheduled to begin shooting in Mexico in May, the film is once again from a screenplay by Paul W.S. Anderson, who runs Impact with producing partner Jeremy Bolt.
Russell Mulcahy is directing. Oded Fehr, Mike Epps and Iain Glen were previously announced to be returning as well.
The first two films grossed more than $127 million at the North American box office.

Oded Fehr, Mike Epps and Iain Glen will reprise their roles from Resident Evil: Apocalypse for Screen Gems' next installment, Resident Evil: Extinction, says Production Weekly. Paul W.S. Anderson, who wrote the first two films and directed the first, also wrote the third film, to be directed by Russell Mulcahy.
Milla Jovovich is back as Alice and she's running with a new pack of humans, leading a caravan that's cutting through the Nevada desert on a long trek to Alaska. Hunted by the minions of the perpetually scheming Dr. Isaacs, Alice has zombies hungry for her flesh and lab rats hungry for her blood -- while Alice herself is hungry for only one thing: revenge.
Fehr plays Carlos Olivera, Isaacs is played by Glen and Epps stars as L.J. Production is scheduled to begin mid-May in Mexicali, Mexico.

Die Constantin Film AG setzt die erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit mit Milla
Jovovich fort und verpflichtet den Hollywoodstar erneut für die
Hauptrolle in RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION. Die internationale
Eigenproduktion ist die mit Spannung erwartete dritte Verfilmung der
auf dem Bestseller-Videospiel von Capcom basierenden "Resident Evil"
Reihe. Die beiden ersten Filme RESIDENT EVIL und RESIDENT EVIL:
APOCALYPSE generierten bislang weltweit in den verschiedenen
Auswertungsstufen einen Gesamtumsatz von mehr als US$ 600 Millionen.
In der Fortsetzung des Kampfes der Hauptfigur Alice gegen die
teuflische Umbrella Corp muss ein Virus entschlüsselt werden, der die
gesamte Menschheit bedroht.
Unter der Regie von Russell Mulcahy, der seit dem Fantasy-Blockbuster
HIGHLANDER als Spezialist für Action-Spektakel gilt, ist der Drehbeginn von RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION für Ende April 2006 geplant.
Der Actionthriller wird von Constantin Film in Zusammenarbeit mit
Davis Film produziert. Bernd Eichinger und Samuel Hadida zeichnen als

Damit wird die erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit mit dem US-Studio
fortgesetzt, das bereits mit der Vermarktung der beiden ersten Teile
der "Resident Evil" Verfilmungen allein an den nordamerikanischen
Kinokassen knapp US$ 100 Millionen eingespielt hat.
