sein neues kuscheliges Haustier Gizmo in die Arme schliessen kann. Doch er hätte besser auf die Warnungen gehört, denn aus dem possierlichen Weihnachtsgeschenk wird ein Alptraum für eine ganze Stadt. Ein kleines, drolliges Tier vermehrt sich in Sekundenschnelle und es entstehen grauenvolle und doch hochintelligente Monster...
Und das nicht nur einmal... "Gremlins 2" (1990) und evtl. "Gremlins 3"...
Steven Spielberg produzierte den "Puppen-Horror", Chris Columbus (Regisseur von "Harry Potter") schrieb das Drehbuch und Joe Dante führte Regie... Die Gremlins gehören wohl zu den bekanntesten Filmmonstern überhaupt - von "Alien" und "Predator" mal abgesehen... ;-)
Gremlins 3 !?!
Sollte "Gremlins 3" tatsächlich gedreht werden, wird der Film nicht vor 2011 in die Kinos (oder auf DVD) kommen... Die Chancen stehen aber eher schlecht...

Was having a chat to a trooper over at Warner Bros today about the "Gremlins 3" talk that arose this week. While my source isn’t based at Warner Premiere - the newly reformed direct to DVD arm of the Burbank boys - he can confirm that there has been a bit of talk about another "Gremlins" film in recent years at Warner, and believes the project may have been suggested as a 'Warner Premiere'.
"The talk has been going on for quite some time", the WB source says of a third "Gremlins" film, which many speculate will utilise CGI rather than puppetry. "I think that’s all it is at the moment. Talk. I know [name removed] has a pretty full slate over at Premiere - they’re looking at doing direct to video sequels to Scooby Doo and The Goonies, and as you mentioned, Premiere are soon to start production on The Lost Boys 2 and New Jack City 2 - so won’t be in any rush.
"..it isn’t possible to do anything on the budget of those [DTV sequels], and to be half decent, this thing would have to have a bit of money behind it, so I don’t think one can safely say it’ll definitely end up one of the titles on the Warner Premiere slate, but I believe its a consideration". [...] More of a 'possibility' than anything, Joe Dante has apparently been contacted about doing a new "Gremlins" movie. It's come up a few times and the main reason he's not jumping on is becuase the studio want it to be CGI - Dante would rather ol fashion; animatronic etc - as I'm sure we all would. I'm sure they'll do it anyway [it's happened before - hello T3?] Cute little Gizmo dolls in stores again".

Have you ever thought of doing a third Gremlins? Have I ever thought about it? I've heard that Warner Brothers has thought about it but I kind of made my third Gremlins movie with Small Soldiers. The thing about the Gremlins movies is that with today's technology, they would be completely different in approach than the two that I made. Even though Gremlins 2 is a light years trade-up from the effects available for the first one, they're still basically puppet effects. There's no CG in the movie and now with the advent of CG, they could do anything you could think of. We were always limited in our story by what we knew we could get away with, so we didn't have them doing a lot of stuff that was impossible. Now, with CG, I think the sky's the limit. At the end of Gremlins 2, we have this large musical number with what looks like hundreds of gremlins in the lobby of the building. Each one of those was a real puppet and we wouldn't do that today.
Would you want to see CG gremlins? I can't say that I really have a need for that.
Part of the charm is that they're puppets. Well, I thought it was. That certainly ended up informing the whole series. The puppet-like qualities they had, we just sort of adapted to that. In the first film, they were originally just going to be little horrific creatures and then as we worked with them, we saw how funny they could be and how satiric. That changed the whole tone of the movie while we were making it.
Would Warner Brothers make a Gremlins 3 without you? There's definitely a chance. I've understood that they have actually made efforts at scripts and every so often I read an odd item in columns that says, "Oh, so and so is working on Gremlins 3" but then I check it with other people and they say no, it's not true. I can't imagine that it isn't somewhere in their pile of unmade movies. [...]

Director Joe Dante told SCI FI Wire that he developed DVD special editions for his genre films Gremlins, Gremlins 2, Innerspace and The Howling simultaneously. The Gremlins discs, available Aug. 20, will have the most new content, with commentaries, deleted scenes, a gag reel, behind-the-scenes documentaries and alternate-language tracks, the director said in an interview.
"Gremlins 1 has two audio tracks," Dante said. "One is me and the cast, and one is me and the effects producers. But there's less missing footage than there is on Gremlins 2. Gremlins 2 has 20 minutes of it, plus a gag reel. We never made a gag reel on Gremlins 1, so that's why there isn't anything there. Gremlins 1 also has a documentary that was made at the time, I think, by Mick Garris, which was shot on 16mm. We found that, and everybody looks younger, so that's great. Also, I've been told there are French and Spanish tracks, which should be more interesting than usual, because we actually redid the entire soundtrack of all the gremlins for the foreign editions. We actually rewrote all the stuff to make it appeal to the various localities. So listening to gremlins speaking French and Spanish ought to be interesting." [...]

Das Drehbuch wurde bereits geschrieben, die Charaktere Billy, Kate, Gizmo, Mr. und Mrs. Futterman sollen wieder auftauchen... Angeblich soll Donald Petrie (u.a. "Der Onkel vom Mars") Regie führen... Warner möchte die Gremlins sowohl als Puppen als auch als CGI... (ILM !?!)... Die Produktion soll schon im Herbst 2001 starten...
