Seit Ridley Scotts "Alien" 1979 in die Kinos kam, hat die SF-Horrorsaga um den ewigen Kampf von Lieutenant Ellen Ripley, gespielt von Sigourney Weaver, dank der nicht minder grandiosen Fortsetzungen "Aliens-Die Rückkehr" (1986), "Alien³" (1992) und "Alien: Die Wiedergeburt" (1997) Kultstatus erreicht....
Jeder Teil ist ein Meisterwerk für sich, mit der ganz persönlichen Handschrift des jeweiligen Regisseurs:

MTV fragte Sigourney Weaver nach einem möglichen "Alien"-Sequel...
[...] Weaver confirmed that she and Scott have discussed re-teaming for a fifth film, "Both of us feel a kind of commitment to that woman. He’s as much responsible for who she is as I am." Then as she opined on the way the alien creature had been ruined in the recent films, Weaver’s comments got especially interesting.
"We’d have to go back to the drawing board on [the alien]," she said. "Ridley said that right away when we first talked about [a fifth film]."
And finally, the quote that’s gotten me mighty curious, "What we’re interested in is taking the character of Ripley and seeing what other science fiction story we can tell about someone who has lived several lives." [...]

Gearbox Präsident Randy Pitchford hat nun, entgegen den Gerüchten, gesagt, dass der Ego-Shooter Aliens: Colonial Wars noch nicht fallen gelassen wurde.
"Das Spiel ist nicht eingestampft", sagte Pitchford, "wir haben nur einige Änderungen vorgenommen, die auch andere Mitarbeiter erfordern."
Die richtige Geschichte scheint allerdings etwas anders auszusehen. Allem Anschein nach hat Gearbox nach dem Debakel von Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway ca. 25 Mitarbeiter entlassen, die auch an Aliens mitarbeiteten.
Inwiefern sich das letztendlich auf die Qualität des Spiels auswirkt, wird sich noch zeigen.

Collider.com sprach mit dem Produzenten John Davis, u.a. über die Zukunft von AVP...
[...] You were also involved with AVP and AVPR, which are two great franchises, but they haven’t been able to work as a joint franchise. When are we going to see them go separate? Or are we going to see a third AVP?
John Davis: Well, the Governor has mentioned to me that when he ceases to be Governor, if he doesn’t run for the Senate and all of that stuff, he’d like to do a movie or two again. And I don’t know, maybe we could restart the Predator franchise.
So if Arnold wanted to do it, it’s going to get made?
John Davis: Well we’d have to come up with a really good script and a really great angle on it, but Predator was the first movie I was ever involved with, so it’s always going to have a really soft spot in my heart.
So is the AVP franchise on hold for now?
John Davis: I think we’ve logically done what we could’ve done with the two AVP movies. But I think there’s something to go back to with Predator.
How do you see the character that Arnold plays to that franchise?
John Davis: I don’t know yet. But I think Predator is a great character and a great monster.

An anonymous source over at 20th Century Fox got in touch with us over the weekend to relay the news another Aliens vs. Predator sequel is a "certainty" at this point. If you recall, the brothers Strause - who helmed the Christmas release Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem - stated Fox was going to take a "wait-and-see" approach to a third chapter, furthermore, that the story would have to continue in space (details). "AvP-R" grossed a worldwide total of $128.8 million; $41 million domestically. It hits DVD on April 15th (specs and artD). No word yet if the Strause brothers will return to the franchise.

So "Aliens Vs. Predator : Requiem" didn't exactly set the box office on fire - like most assumed it would; seems 'word of mouth' might've played a part in that - but that doesn't mean the prospects of seeing another tag-team between slimey and the ugly-mo-fo isn't still a strong possibility.
A few hours ago, one half of the film's directing team, Colin Strause, posted the following in the IMDB forums :
We did over 15 million internationally (and it hasn't even opened everywhere yet), which means in just a few days we've already made more than our total budget was. I admit I wish it did better in the US, but these numbers are nothing to feel bad about.
The flick, which Strause co-directed alongside brother Greg, grossed an estimated $10 million from 2,611 runs for a cume of $26.9 million in the sequel's first six days. [...]
So will we see another "Aliens Vs. Predator" film? It's, of course, too early to say... but I think it's pretty safe to say we'll at least see the characters return in some form or another - hopefully in stand-alone "Alien" and "Predator" movies. (Should a third "AvP" movie be greenlight, the Strause boys have already informed the studio they'd like to set it in 'Space').

So, we sat on this info for the afternoon weighing the validity of this information until Fangoria posted this story where co-director Greg Strause teases, "There's lots of stuff still unseen - complete scenes that are not in the trailer," then, "A new world perhaps..."
Sounds pretty legit. The Predator home planet was once the center of an abandoned Predator sequel cooked up by Robert Rodriguez.

There's still no trailer, but we do have a new title. 20th Century Fox 's Alien vs. Predator follow-up is now going by Aliens vs. Predator Requiem. Written by Shane Salerno and directed by the Strause brothers, the movie is scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day.
In the film, the iconic monsters from two of the scariest film franchises ever, wage their most brutal battle yet in an unsuspecting Colorado town. David Paetkau, John Ortiz, Johnny Lewis, Reiko Aylesworth, Sam Trammell, Shareeka Epps and Steven Pasquale star.
The studio also registered AliensvsPredatorRequiem.com on August 3rd.
