[17.12.2008] Variety.com liefert den Starttermin des Sequels...
Looking to replicate the box office success that "Twilight" has enjoyed after debuting over Thanksgiving, Summit Entertainment will release sequel "New Moon" on Nov. 20.
The film franchise most associated with Thanksgiving is Warner Bros.' "Harry Potter." But there are only three films left in that series -- and only one bowing over Thanksgiving, in 2010.
Summit caught a lucky break when Warners decided to push back the release of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" from Thanksgiving 2008 to summer 2009.
There are four books in Stephenie Meyer's bestselling "Twilight" franchise.
The final "Potter" film will likely open in summer 2011.
Through Sunday, "Twilight's" domestic cume was $150 million in its fourth week.
Also slated to open on Nov. 20, 2009, are Warners' "Sherlock Holmes," Sony toon "Planet 51" and MGM's untitled "Three Stooges" project. [...]

[16.12.2008] Bei MTV.com gibt es Infos zur Besetzung im Sequel...
[...] MTV News can confirm that 26-year-old "Scorpion King 2" actor Michael Copon [pronounced "COPE-on"] is one of several actors Weitz is considering to play the new, larger Jacob Black. A representative for Copon told us that they're making a full effort to land the high-profile gig. And in a bit of 21st-century self-publicity, the actor has even recently updated his Facebook status with messages like: "Michael Copon [is] in a Twilight Zone!" and "Michael Copon is the older Jacob Black!"
Copon's representative confirmed to MTV News that the Facebook page is run by the actor himself and that those are indeed his words.
Approached for comment on Lautner's omission from the "New Moon" press release, Summit confirmed that it was not a typographical error. "The casting decision in regards to the character Jacob Black has yet to be made," a representative told MTV News.
But even once Copon (or whoever else) is officially announced as the new Jacob, Weitz still has many other key casting decisions to make and an extremely brief amount of time in which to make them. With barely 12 weeks until cameras are due to begin rolling, the "Golden Compass" filmmaker needs to find faces to portray several key characters - including the peace-keeping, Italian vampires known as the Volturi.
With the buzz building for these roles, MTV News has confirmed that 27-year-old "Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" heartthrob Ben Barnes is throwing his hat into the ring. The actor is already quite popular with the "Twilight" fanbase and shares the same manager as both Copon and "Twilight" star Cam Gigandet. Barnes is believed to be campaigning for the role of Aro, a mind-reading vampire whose "New Moon" encounter with Edward and Bella helps shape their destiny together. [...]

[15.12.2008] Wie CS! meldet, wurde Chris Weitz als Regisseur für das Sequel offizielle bestätigt...
Summit Entertainment announced today that filmmaker Chris Weitz has been hired to direct the second film in the studio's "Twilight" film franchise. [...]
"I am honored to have been entrusted with shepherding 'New Moon' from the page to the screen," said Weitz. "The extraordinary world that Stephenie has created has millions of fans, and it will be my duty to protect on their behalf the characters, themes and story they love. This is not a task to be taken lightly, and I will put every effort into realizing a beautiful film to stand alongside a beautiful book." [...]
Production on New Moon is scheduled to begin in the coming months and the studio is planning to release the film towards the end of 2009 or early 2010.

[08.12.2008] Wie EW.com meldet, wird Chris Weitz die Regie beim Sequel übernehmen...
There will be a new director atop the Twilight franchise: and he'll be a man. Sources tell EW.com that Summit Entertainment is about to hire Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) as the shepherd for New Moon, the second installment of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling Twilight series. Weitz is best-known for his work with his brother Paul. The two directed and produced American Pie and then were nominated for an Academy Award for best screenplay for About a Boy, which they also co-directed. Chris' first solo directing gig, The Golden Compass, didn't do well stateside but was a hit internationally.
Twilight, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, has grossed more than $141 million so far, but Hardwicke had clashed with the studio during production. It was announced early this week that she would not be making New Moon. Weitz has a solid relationship with Summit's top brass; he's considered easy to work with and has experience with special effects. "He's the quality-of-life-choice," says one source. While Summit insists "we have not yet signed Chris Weitz to do New Moon," and Weitz's agency says no deal has been signed, other sources say the deal is imminent, and that Summit has stopped negotiations with other potential Moon directors. Summit had planned to announce this hiring decision on Sunday, Dec. 14, and could have Weitz in Vancouver, B.C. as early as Monday to start pre-production on the film.

[08.12.2008] Wie CS! meldet, steht die Regisseurin Catherine Hardwicke für das Sequel nicht zur Verfügung...
Summit Entertainment and director Catherine Hardwicke jointly announced today that the filmmaker will not be directing the next installment in the newly minted "Twilight" film franchise. Summit's targeted end of 2009 or early 2010 release of the film, New Moon, does not work with Ms. Hardwicke's required prep time to bring her vision of the film to the big screen. Thus as has been done before with many successful film franchises, the studio will employ a new director for New Moon.
"I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct 'New Moon,'" said Hardwicke. "Directing 'Twilight' has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel-- it is a great story."
"Catherine did an incredible job in helping us to launch the 'Twilight' franchise and we thank her for all of her efforts and we very much hope to work with her on future Summit projects," said Erik Feig, Summit's President of Production. "We as a studio have a mandate to bring the next installment in the franchise to the big screen in a timely fashion so that fans can get more of Edward, Bella and all of the characters that Stephenie Meyer has created. We are able to pursue an aggressive time frame as we have the luxury of only adapting the novels into screenplays as opposed to having to create a storyline from scratch."

[06.12.2008] STYD sprach mit der Regisseurin Catherine Hardwicke über das Sequel...
Shock: [...] Is there anything you'd want to do differently in the Twilight sequels? Somewhere that you didn't go in the first one?
Hardwicke:
In the other books, Stephenie [Meyer], like she went in completely different directions too. She created whole new back stories with the werewolves and everything. So in a way they're just automatically different, each book. She took it to a new place. She didn't rest on what was successful in the first book. So that's what I think the film would have to do, just take you on that journey.
Shock: Is there an element of the second book you're especially intrigued or excited by, as far as bringing it to life on screen?
Hardwicke:
New Moon's really taking a whole other leap with this new story and there's really a lot of new characters in it. There's the werewolves which is pretty crazy. All the wolves. Then there's also going to Italy in the second book and there's motorcycle riding and cliff-jumping and diving. I love jumping off of cliffs. So it's kind of up my alley - into water, yeah.
Shock: Do you think that you'll do a separate film in between, something away from Twilight?
Hardwicke:
I think that what Summit wants to do is make the next one right away so I don't think there's really an in between because we don't want the kids to get any older because they're not supposed to age. They're vampires, man, they've got to stay young! [...]

[01.12.2008] THR.com berichtet über die internationalen Einspielergebnisse...
[...] Ranking No. 4 was Summit International's "Twilight," which grabbed $7.6 million from 1,618 screens in 15 markets, for an overseas cume of $19.9 million and $139.6 million worldwide. The teen favorite finished No. 1 in Italy, Mexico and Belgium. [...]

[30.11.2008] THR.com berichtet über die US-Einspielergebnisse...
[...] Summit Entertainment's youth-targeting vampire pic "Twilight" fell a big 62% from its chart-topping first Friday-Sunday session to attract $26.4 million in a third-place performance. Yet so big was its week-earlier bow that the modestly budgeted literary adaptation now boasts a mind-bending cume of $119.7 million. [...]

[29.11.2008] Bei KIIS-FM gibt es ein Audio-Interview mit Kristen Stewart und STYD zitiert daraus...
[...] the inevitable sequel, New Moon, begins shooting in March. Summit Entertainment officially greenlit the sequel last week.
"A lot of the book takes place in Italy, and I think we're going to get to go to Italy, which is so cool," Stewart says. "For a while there, they were like, Oh, we don't know if we have the money, but now I think we may have the money!" [...]

[27.11.2008] SunTimes.com meldet...
There's one rule in Hollywood that's rarely broken: Pull in big bucks at the box office and a sequel -- or three -- is virtually guaranteed. Of course the ''Twilight'' film's $70 million-plus bonanza this weekend was largely due to a built-in fan base -- thanks to the enormous success of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight novels.
So, not only have deals been cut for a not-unexpected second ''Twilight'' film (based on Meyer's New Moon book), but I've learned a third film is also virtually a done deal, based on Meyer's Eclipse novel -- though that won't be confirmed for some time.
Also, sources say stars Robert Pattinson, 22, and Kristin Stewart, 18, will get huge salary boosts from the $2 million each earned for "Twilight" -- reportedly $10 million more, per film, plus a nice percentage of the future movies' box-office take.
While Pattinson and Stewart are coming back as the romantic vampire Edward Cullen and his young human love Bella Swan, it's not confirmed that director Catherine Hardwicke will be back behind the camera. The director told the AP Sunday, ''I want to be sure that [the second film is] going to be done right. I don't want to rush into it. It's not like 'Friday, the 13th' or 'Halloween,' you can't just do it super fast and knock another one out.'' Hardwicke indicated she wanted to be sure she and the film's producers were on the same page going forward.
The big success of ''Twilight'' also helps ensure Summit Entertainment's position in Hollywood. ''Twilight'' is the new studio's sixth release and only cost $37 million. [...]
