STYD meldet... It's still too early to say this is a "go" project, but Shock has learned Platinum Dunes and New Line are seriously flirting with a third Texas Chainsaw Massacre film.
Details are slim, however, we've discovered that in spite of reports last fall (during the release of Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) that there were no plans for another chapter, the blood tides have turned in favor of a third film in the new series which kicked off to a profitable start in 2003.
After doing some digging, we've heard a few puzzle pieces need to fall into place before the film is official and story pitches can be taken. [...]

[...] If you just want gore, there's a couple parts, but you've seen worse. This time they remembered that they're supposed to be cannibals, so there's some disgusting soup in one part. Rated R for scenes of disgusting soup. [...]
[...] there are a million ways this could've been interesting and they managed to steer clear of all one million. If you're gonna take this great cinematic masterpiece that I love and have the balls to give it a beginning that was never there, at least humor me with a small amount of imagination or cleverness. These guys won't do it, they got nothin. It's just the same old shit, but with a baby at the beginning. [...]

[...] Gore, people!! Real bloody gore! And it all needs to be there! Every drop of blood and hunk of flesh! HUNKS OF FLESH!!!
And, I suppose more importantly, the story made complete sense as well. I loved the explanation of how Leatherface became so adept at chopping bodies and how the family came to run the town (and thus get away with killing random tourists). It's a pure delight when R. Lee kills the entire sheriff's department. Hilarious.
Speaking of R. Lee, the cast is perfect. The victims are each ideal in their roles as are the members of the Hewitt family. The acting is spot on in each case. There's no camping it up or coasting through. The reactions of everyone are as perfect as they could be in the situations in which they find themselves. And the pure, nasty evil of the attackers are as varied and perfect as they could be as well.
As an aside, there's nothing like that first time that Leatherface starts up his chainsaw in any of his movies. But this one is even better. It is THE first time. Hell, I was ecstatic when he first found the damn thing. (It's almost touching when he walks with it down the road...his own found baby.) But when he starts it - and the under circumstances in which he starts it - holy crap. The artist has found his medium. Heh. [...]

Harry von AICN liefert seine Kritik zu "TCM: The Beginning"... [...] The horror that happens here is brutal in the same way that it is in the roughest of gore films, the only difference is that you know you’re in a franchise, the iconography of Leatherface is hard to escape - and as a horror fan, no matter how much you may like these teenagers - you want to see them torn apart by Leatherface. It’s something that’s hard to escape. [...]
This is a brutal film. It is also extremely entertaining and exactly how it should be.

Fangoria meldet... Fango has learned that New Line Cinema’s TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE prequel (previously subtitled THE BEGINNING, but with the exact title now to be determined) began shooting in Austin, TX this week under Jonathan (DARKNESS FALLS) Liebesman’s direction. Scripted by once and future Fango columnist David J. (THE CROW) Schow and being produced by the remake mavens at Platinum Dunes, the new CHAINSAW stars Jordana (THE FACULTY) Brewster and Taylor (THE O.C.) Handley, as well as newly cast Matthew Bomer (who appears in this fall’s FLIGHTPLAN, but may be best-known for being an early front-runner for the title role of the new SUPERMAN movie) and model-turned-actress Diora (WEDDING CRASHERS) Baird (pictured). As previously announced, R. Lee Ermey and Andrew Bryniarski return from the previous film as members of the cannibal clan; so does Heather Kafka in the Henrietta role. The film opens October 6, 2006 [...]

In the first official casting news for the film, we've been informed by an anonymous source that the stunningly beautiful Jordana Brewster (The Fast and the Furious, D.E.B.S) will play the lead role in New Line Cinema's Texas Chainsaw Massacre Prequel, which will begin shooting in the coming months for a (possible) fall 2006 release. Latino Review meldet... 'A.B' alerted us about a few names being consireded for the upcoming Jonathan Liebesman untitled "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" prequel for New Line Cinema. Also what the studio is looking for to play the role, and a bit info on the plot. The story as far as we know follows a group of kids who run afoul of chainsaw-wielding psycho Leatherface and his demented family. The story will reveal Leatherface's origins. But here is what we are being told.
I just shot a short film with someone connected to this next movie in some capacity. I've got a few names that might be involved in the "Texas Chainsaw" prequel movie for Jonathan Liebesman. R. Lee Ermey, Cassandra McGrath, Lauren Ambrose, Justin Bartha. At least, that's some of the names that are being 'looked at'. Offers and auditions go out/begin shortly. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning has a role like Jessica's (Biel) in the first. "Constance" is described as being between 18-22, Caucasian, Sexy and smart, she is a girl coming into her own. On her way to Mexico to celebrate with her sister, she notices all and fears it as well. Beautiful, yet innocent, she will come full circle in a fight for her life. Lead. It's the 'star making' role. 'Sparky' I work for a publishing company. A couple of months back "State of Fear" was snapped up by Paramount. Michael Crichton's environmental thriller. They're bringing in actresses to test for roles - I can also tell you two of the names I know they're chasing for it, newcomer Cassie McGrath (Dimension's Wolf Creek) and Shannyn Sossamon (Lions Gate's Rules of Attraction).
