MTV.com meldet... In an interview with MTV News last week, Nic Cage insisted that, not only were talks moving forward for "Ghost Rider 2," but they had progressed to a point where both villains and locations were bandied about.
"It looks like it will take place in Europe and the character will work with the [Catholic] Church," he said. "It’ll be a completely new experience."
Cage is obviously enthusiastic - but is everybody?
"No, I think ‘Ghost Rider’ had its moment," co-star Eva Mendes told MTV, more or less echoing statements she made last May. "I don’t know about a sequel, but I don’t think it needs one."
Now, it’s not only possible, but probable, that as the titular hero himself, the demon on wheels Johnny Blaze, Cage is privy to conversations about the future of the franchise that Mendes isn’t. And we don’t want to call BS on his statements - it’s obvious he’s had talks about reprising his role.
But then what to make of the fact that Mendes is out of the loop? Well, it could mean things are so nebulous she hasn’t even been contacted yet. Or it could mean she’s not wanted back.
So when and if they DO call - would she wanna hop back on that motorcycle?
"I think it was a great experience, and I was so proud of it. It was fun... but I think it’s done," she said. "But look, hey, if it’s Nicolas Cage again - I’ll do anything with him."

Bei CS! gibt es ein Interview mit Nicolas Cage... [...] he discussed a sequel to last year's Columbia Pictures and Marvel release, Ghost Rider.
Cage: Yes, actually, had a nice meeting with the studio about 3-months ago, and we talked about going international with that character. Taking him into Europe, having him go on a motorcycle tour through Europe, and he's connected with the church, if you can believe that. So it sort of has elements to it that are very much in the zeitgeist, with "The Da Vinci Code" and things like that. [...]

CS! meldet... Nicolas Cage is known for not doing sequels, but that seems to be changing. National Treasure: Book of Secrets is the follow-up to the first hit Disney movie and he isn't stopping there.
Today he told ComingSoon.net that he would be interested in doing another Ghost Rider movie.
"All they have to do is call, and I would love to see that happen. That would be fun," Cage said. [...]

Moviehole meldet... Mark Steven Johnson tells IGN that he’s considering dusting off Johnny Blaze for another Ghost Ride.
"We're talking about it, yeah, talking about it," says Johnson of "Ghost Rider 2". "I don't know what I'm going to do, to be honest. After Daredevil and this ... it takes so long, these movies. I really want something different, and the pressure of the fan community is always so great."
Johnson, who started out on comedies like "Grumpy Old Men", says he’d much rather do something lighter next. "I would like to do something more comedy-based," he says, "go back to my roots like the Grumpy Old Men movies and do something with effects. I love effects; I love working with them. So I don't know about for myself, if that's in the cards for me."
But if there is a "Ghost Rider 2", Johnson has his ideas.
"If there's a second one, I would push for Scarecrow," he says. "In fact, in my first script it was Scarecrow who was the villain, but then I heard that they were going to put him in the Batman movie. But now having seen it, he wasn't really in it that much. And the Marvel Scarecrow is really pretty cool, so I think he'd be an excellent villain. I also think there's a character named Blackout that could be interesting, [and] there's Vengeance from the later comics."

CS! berichtet über die US-Einspielerergebnisse...
[...] After one of the busiest Presidents' Day weekends at the box office ever, things settled down despite the release of five new movies in wide release. Even so, Sony's Ghost Rider, starring Nicolas Cage, was able to hold its place as the #1 movie at the box office for a second weekend with $19.7 million, despite taking a hard plunge from its record-setting opening. In ten days, it has grossed $78.6 million. [...]

IFMagazine.com sprach mit dem Regisseur Mark Steven Johnson, u.a. über eine mögliche Fortsetzung... iF: [...] Now that GHOST RIDER is a success, does a sequel look like a possibility and
would you be involved?
JOHNSON: I'm really happy about the success of GHOST RIDER. I really just wanted to make something fun and different, something that didn't take itself too seriously. It's a really weird movie and we didn't know if anybody would even show up in the first place. So the fact that we're breaking records, not just in the U.S., but also around the world, is a real kick. I'd love to do another one. But that's really up to Sony now. I'd like to see what Mephisto has in store for Johnny down the road. Safe to say, that things are going to get worse for Johnny before they get better!

Heute startet "Ghost Rider" in den deutschen Kinos... Spiegel.de berichtet über die US-Kinocharts... [...] Sony Pictures and Mark Steven Johnson's adaptation of Marvel Comics Ghost Rider, starring Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes, rode home with an estimated $15.9 million its opening Friday, about $600,000 more than Johnson's Daredevil opened with over President's Day weekend four years ago. With that impressive of an opening, Ghost Rider is looking likely to set a new record for a President's Day weekend opener if it hold up well enough to make over $45.1 million over the four-day weekend. Either way, it's likely to become Nicolas Cage's biggest opening movie to date by topping his 2004 hit National Treasure. [...]

Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Harry Knowles... Ausserdem gibt es bei AICN eine Kritik von Massawyrm... [...] Ghost Rider is a total mess practically from start to finish, a giant flaming turd racing down the highway at 200 MPH. But worry not. This ain’t X-Men 3. This isn’t The Punisher. This isn’t going to be one of my fevered rants about the failure to get this right. No, this is more of a defeated sigh. Because while I certainly won’t compare it to X3, I will invoke Fantastic Four. Really, when all is said and done, that’s exactly what this is. They get as much right as they get wrong - but all the while, they never manage to make anything resembling a good movie. [...]

CHUD widmet sich der Tatsache, dass keine Vorabvorführungen von "Ghost Rider" stattfinden... Derweil berichtet MovieWeb über die mögliche Fortsetzung... At a press-event for Sony Pictures and Marvel Entertainment's Ghost Rider, producer Avi Arad announced that talks are now underway to develop a sequel to the action-packed superhero movie starring Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes.
Cage would once again portray stunt cyclist Johnny Blaze who has sold his soul to the devil. By day, Johnny is a die-hard stunt rider... but at night, in the presence of evil, he becomes the Ghost Rider, a bounty hunter of rogue demons, forced to do the devil's bidding.
Ghost Rider is one of Nicholas Cage's favorite comics; he is very passionate about playing the character and would be eager to come back for future installments.
Arad said that the crew spent a year tweaking the Ghost Rider graphics technology. We were able to see the film at a special press-screening - the first time the audience gets to see Johnny Blaze transform into the Ghost Rider, it is a mind-blowing experience ... the effects are that incredible! [...]

Bei CS! gibt es ein Interview mit Nicolas Cage und Eva Mendes... CS/SHH!: Nic, when we talked to you last, you said you weren't sure you wanted to continue on with this series. Mark said there have been some talks since then. Can you see yourself now in "Ghost Rider 2"?
Cage: Well, it depends upon the reaction from the movie going audiences if they are enthusiastic about it and if there is a good script. I would say of all the characters I've played, my interests coincide with where this particular character could go. I am interested in the metaphysical nature of Ghost Rider and his world. I am a man with an open mind. I really don't know anything, but I'm very interested in the spiritual and the material. And this is the one superhero who walks between both worlds. I think it's pretty exciting because he's new and there is a lot of room for adventure with this guy. [...]
