"Final Destination" (2000) brachte frischen Wind ins Horrorgenre...

Teil "Final Destination: Death Trip 3D"... [...] On what should have been a fun-filled day at the races, Nick O'Bannon has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his friends and causing the upper deck of the stands to collapse on him. When he comes out of this grisly nightmare Nick panics, persuading his girlfriend, Lori, and their friends, Janet and Hunt, to leave... escaping seconds before Nick's frightening vision becomes a terrible reality. Thinking they've cheated death, the group has a new lease on life, but unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it is only the beginning. As his premonitions continue and the crash survivors begin to die one-by-one--in increasingly gruesome ways--Nick must figure out how to cheat death once and for all before he, too, reaches his final destination. The film marks the latest in the highly popular "Final Destination" series, and its first 3D installment, giving horror fans an especially visceral thrill ride. [...]

Hollywoodreporter.com meldet... David R. Ellis is coming back to New Line for more death.
The director has signed to direct and develop "Final Destination 4," the latest installment of New Line's popular horror series, which the studio plans to shoot in 3-D.
The premise of the series is that even if you cheat death once, a force that is death itself will stalk you until it finishes what is started, usually in a gruesome fashion. While plot details for "FD4" are being kept under wraps, the movie will stand alone: It will feature new teens facing new forms of death.
The script was written by Eric Bress, who co-wrote "Final Destination 2."
Ellis directed the second installment, which was praised for its elaborately orchestrated killings.
New Line's Richard Brener and Walter Hamada are overseeing the project, which has no start date.
The "Final Destination" films have been solid performers for New Line since they debuted in 2000. The first film grossed $53.3 million, the 2003 sequel made $46.5 million and the third, released in 2006, collected $54 million. The movies usually are made for at least half that and do well on home video. [...]

[...] There’s nothing in this movie that tops the best moments of FD2, but it’s got a manic, frantic energy that I think I like more than the first one. I wish the opening rollercoaster scene was better directed, because it’s a great idea, and it sort of works, but it trades coherence for confusion, which is a shame. The individual deaths are much better [...]

The plot's pretty lame, the dialogue is downright hokey, and the characters are a bore, but somehow "Final Destination 3" (an oxymoron if there ever was one) still delivers a certain degree of over-the-top amusement. [...]

CS! sprach mit James Wong und Co...
[21.01.2006]
SciFi.com meldet... James Wong, co-writer and director of the upcoming supernatural horror sequel Final Destination 3, told SCI FI Wire that he managed to find a unique role in the latest installment for Tony Todd, the veteran character actor who played a sinister morgue attendant in the first two films. But Todd's character won't return in the third installment, in which death comes after the survivors of a horrific roller-coaster accident.
"The ride, the coaster, in the movie, is called 'Devil's Flight,' and there's this huge Devil that sits at the entrance to the ride," Wong said in an interview. "At amusement parks they always have that creepy voice that lures you into the rides. And Tony Todd will be the voice of the Devil."
In Final Destination 3, a group of high school students, including Wendy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Kevin (Ryan Merriman), are about to ride a monstrous roller coaster when Wendy has a premonition of a horrible accident that will kill them all. They escape, only to find themselves stalked by an unseen force that wants them all dead. No other characters from the first two films appear in this third installment.
Wong said that, unlike the recent spate of horror movies that have been rated PG-13 in order to reach the widest possible audience, Final Destination 3 will be released with an R rating. "This is a definite R," Wong said. "I think the difference between this movie and PG-13 will be very apparent after the first death. But the one thing I want to add to that is that the deaths are terrifying and intense, but there's also a very high degree of entertainment to the movie. It's not a dark and grim movie, even though there are these really scary and graphic deaths. I think that's also maybe the difference between Final Destination 3 and maybe the Saw movies." [...]
