Dem L.A.-Police-Department ist klar, dass eine Serie gewagter Truck-Entführungen mitten auf den kalifornischen Highways nur von echten Profis durchgezogen werden konnte. Die Hintermänner der Verbrechen vermuten die Cops in der Gang um Streetracing-Legende Dominic (Vin Diesel, u.a. "Riddick"). Um die Car-Napper zu stellen, schleust sich Undercover-Cop Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker, u.a. "Timeline") in die illegale Rennfahrer-Szene ein. Entgegen aller Pläne freundet er sich mit Dominic an und verliebt sich Hals über Kopf in dessen schöne Schwester Mia (Jordana Brewster, u.a. "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning"). Schnell verwischen die Grenzen zwischen Leidenschaft und Pflicht. Sean kann selbstverständlich nicht widerstehen und legt sich sogleich mit DK alias Drift King (Brian Tee, u.a. "Starship Troopers 2: Held der Föderation") an, der Kontakte zur Yakuza unterhält...

Vin Diesel, who stars in next Friday's Babylon A.D., told ComingSoon.net today that he is directing a 20-minute prequel to Fast and Furious, the fourth installment in the Universal Pictures franchise.
Diesel will star in the prequel along with Michelle Rodriguez reprising her role as Letty and Sung Kang returning as Han. Diesel didn't say how the prequel would premiere; it could be on a DVD, online, TV, etc.
The fourth movie is a sequel to the first installment, and though Diesel didn't elaborate, we assume this 20-minute prequel will tie-in some of the events from the second and third movies. Rodriguez appeared in the first movie, Sung Kang in the third, and Diesel in the first with a brief cameo in the third.
In the Justin Lin-directed Fast and Furious, opening June 5, 2009, fugitive ex-con Dom Toretto (Diesel) reignites his feud with agent Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker). But as they are forced to confront a shared enemy, Dom and Brian must give in to an uncertain new trust if they hope to outmanuever him.

[...] Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are in negotiations to reunite for the fourth installment of Universal's "Fast and the Furious" franchise. Justin Lin and Chris Morgan, who were behind "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," are returning to directing and writing duties, respectively.
Neal Moritz will produce the as-yet-untitled installment along with Diesel, who will produce through his One Race Films banner.
The story line is being kept under wraps, but fast cars are involved. A spring start is anticipated with shooting in Los Angeles, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
The first "Furious," released in 2001, was a surprise hit, grossing more than $144 million and creating a franchise for the studio while making stars our of Diesel and Walker. Only Walker returned for the sequel, "2 Fast 2 Furious," and sat out the third installment, 2005's "Tokyo Drift." That movie had relative newcomer Lucas Black in the driver's seat but did feature Diesel in a cameo at the end of the movie. His appearance was so well received that it was even mentioned in ads. A few weeks back, ComingSoon.net reported on a leaked memo doing the rounds in Hollywood that had Justin Lin attached to direct The Fast and the Furious 4 before the impending writers' strike. [...]
When asked whether the recent leak might have something to do with wishful thinking on the studio's part to get another "Fast and the Furious" movie out there before the strike, he responded, "That's definitely part of the climate. Not that I've been in this business that long, but it's unbelievable, some of the stuff that's happening. Everyone is scrambling, but if I do it, I'm going to have fun with it. I'm still assessing. I haven't totally signed on anything yet. People have been calling me, and I would do it for the right reason with the right people. That was my first action car movie and I feel like I'm better now. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Morgan did such a knock-up job on last summer’s "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" that Universal asked him back to pen sequel number three.
Recent rumours suggested that "The Fast and the Furious 4" might be headed direct-to-DVD, but this new substantiation - specifically the bit in the item that states that "Tokyo Drift" made a pleasing $158 million worldwide - would suggest otherwise. Don’t be surprised if they try and get Vin Diesel back - something they’ve discussed quite a few times - and make it a big monster tent pole teste-tickler. [...]

Wochenende der Überraschungen: "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" setzte sich nicht nur überraschend gegen den vermeintlich übermachtigen "Poseidon" durch und an die Spitze der deutschen Charts, sondern sicherte sich auch noch einen Bogey für einen Schnitt von mehr als 1000 Besuchern pro Kopie. Mit 408 Kopien gestartet, kam das zweite Sequel des Hits von 2001 auf vorerst noch geschätzte 430.000 Besucher (wie alle Neustarts ohne Previewzahlen). Damit lag der Actioner trotz komplett unbekannter Darsteller und weniger eingesetzter Kopien ähnlich gut wie seine Vorgänger: Das Original war 2001 auf 461.676 Besucher (gesamt: 1,4 Mio. Zuschauer) gekommen, die Fortsetzung "2 Fast 2 Furious" 2003 auf 669.838 Kinogänger (gesamt 1,7 Mio. Besucher), jeweils mit über 500 Startkopien. [...]

Blickpunkt:Film liefert eine Kritik... Vorsicht SPOILER !!!
[...] Diese perfekt choreographierten Streetracing-Sequenzen sind ein wahrer Augenschmaus und wurden vom "Better Luck Tomorrow"-Regisseur Justin Lin geradlinig ohne Hilfe von CGI-Effekten in Szene gesetzt. Auf technisch ausgetüftelte Trickaufnahmen, beispielsweise vom Motorinnern, wie man sie aus den beiden vorangegangenen Teilen kennt, wurde vollkommen verzichtet. Eingerahmt wird die Action von einem Standardplot um Rivalitäten, kriminelle Machenschaften, Freundschaft und Loyalität, Vater/Sohn-Konflikt, Fisch-aus-dem-Wasser-Szenarien und natürlich einem romantischen Subplot. Einem B-Movie entsprechend finden sich ein paar der üblich gestelzten Dialogzeilen, allzu viel moralisiert wird hingegen nicht. So ist wie gehabt einer der Sympathieträger, in diesem Fall Shauns neuer Freund und Mentor Han (Sung Kang), eine Figur, die es mit den Gesetzen nicht so genau nimmt. Überhaupt wird durch die interessante Nebenbesetzung und asiatische Kulturspritze Extra-Treibstoff für PS-starke Poweraction herausgeholt. [...] Autofanatiker werden sich zudem an bislang nicht gesehenen Prototypen und den coolen Drift-Einlagen ergötzen. Ansonsten wird für das Teenpublikum die hinlänglich erprobte Mischung aus Geschwindigkeitsrausch, Gewalt und Girls mit dröhnendem Soundtrack aufgefahren.

[...] this is a silly fucking movie with a few shining moments of greatness. Had this film been about the Han character taking the total douche bag under his wing and showing him how to be a man, then this would have been a worthy addition to the Fast and the Furious franchise. Instead, this only manages to rank 2nd in the series because part two was so unbelievably, unintentionally funny.
But if you're the type of person that says "fuck all that, Bring on the fast cars, Asian girls in non-existent shorts and a blaring soundtrack" - well, you won't be disappointed. There's plenty of that on all fronts to keep you entertained. [...]

Eurogamer berichtet über das "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" Videospiel...
EA's announced that it will be co-publishing Namco Bandai's The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, announced earlier this year, on PS2 and PSP. You can see what the PS2 one looks like in the screenshot gallery.
In a case of art imitating art imitating wait hang on are we seriously calling this art, Tokyo Drift is a drift-racing arcade game with "camera angles straight from the movie", "Advanced Rubber Band AI", 10,000-poly car models and customisation options.
We can probably stow the cynicism a bit though since it sounds like it's aimed at people who don't know how to spin the car the wrong way round corners in Ridge Racer - apparently the drift system will feature assists and the like to level the playing field.
Based on the film, which, based on the trailer, looks like Ridge Racer meets Need For Speed doesn't meet Paul Walker because he's clearly got better things to do, TFATF: Tokyo Drift is developed by UK outfit Eutechnyx and should be with us in late summer.
Along with all the stuff mentioned above, you can also expect four-player online racing, and to customise your car with a hundred licensed wheels, 500 body kits and hopefully not those bloody awful England flags everyone's got stuck to their Fiestas that make them look a bit like elves with tassels.
