Auch heute ist der Film immer noch sehenswert, nicht nur für Liebhaber des Genres... Anfang der 60er Jahre in Amerika, vor der Ermordung der Kennedys und vor dem Vietnamkrieg - kurz, als die Welt noch in Ordnung war... Frances 'Baby' Houseman (Jennifer Grey, u.a. "Ferris macht blau") fährt mit ihren Eltern in ein Ferienhotel in den Catskills. Sie langweilt sich unter all den Erwachsenen zu Tode und lernt Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze, u.a. "Donnie Darko", "Ghost"), den Tanzlehrer und Showtänzer des Hotels, kennen und lieben. Bis zum Happy End kommt der Zuschauer in den Genuß vieler Tanzszenen, die sich im Stil der 60er und 80er Jahre abwechseln.
